Definitely NOT for camping, the world’s most expensive barbecue

With summer now upon the Northern Hemisphere, thoughts are very much turned to al fresco entertaining and outdoor food, for which the humble BBQ is king.

However, there is nothing humble about the Aemyrie Igneum which it’s creator says is not only the world’s most expensive, but equally the world’s most luxurious and technologically advanced barbecue.

A far cry from the £5 disposable BBQ on a rock in the woods, an Aemyrie Igneum is more than just a high-end grill; it is a working piece of art. Guaranteed to add opulence and elegance to any outdoor space; whether that be a garden, yacht or poolside area. What makes it even more distinctive is the barbecue’s bespoke nature – no two Aemyrie grills are the same, making it a completely unique investment.

Aemyrie was founded in 2015 by fine food, wine and cooking aficionado Peter Walsh, who fell in love with the unique taste achieved through cooking on wood fires whilst travelling around the world seeking out new cooking inspirations. The grilling enthusiast began his quest to recreate the unique taste and flavours which can only be achieved by cooking over smoke and flames using traditional fuels – and to create the world’s most luxurious and technologically advanced grills. ‘Aemyrie’ comes from the Old English word for ember.

Says Peter;

“Every commission is hand-made in England to each customers’ personal requirements and provides its owner with a true sense of individuality. Each grill is built by a dedicated team of artisan craftsmen, experienced designers and professional fabricators. We can create the iconic end panels in a variety of hardwoods and other materials and can offer several special finishes for other panels using paints, varnishes, lacquers, enamels and even liquid metals. We assemble all the components by hand and the final stages are completed on site with the new owner.”

There are of course already many high-end barbecue brands already prevalent within the market, but the Aemyrie, says Peter, stands out for its range of technological features, bespoke commissioning options, and stunning aesthetics.

Space-Age Technology

Weighing between 350kg – 400kg depending on the materials specified and standing at 1.4 metres (55 inches) high and at 1.65 metres (65 inches) wide, an Aemyrie grill easily produces remarkable food for 30 or more guests.

Hidden within the unique exterior is an array of technological masterpieces. The powerful Ceramignite® ignition system brings the grill to cooking temperature in a matter of minutes and can achieve a maximum temperature of over 350˚C, significantly higher than most conventional ovens.

A high-performing computer running adaptive and intelligent software controls hidden fans, air channels and variable vents which constantly monitor and manage airflows throughout the entire system. Additionally, Aemyrie also utilises a state-of-the-art, environmentally friendly and safe insulator called ‘Aerogel’, originally developed by NASA for use in the Space Programme and never before used in this type of application. This, combined with a unique construction methodology, allows an Aemyrie to provide a ‘safe touch’ exterior, even when operating at maximum temperature.

Multiple fuels, multiple flavours

Utilising a wide range of fuels including solid wood logs, briquettes and charcoal, the solid fuel system is perfect for achieving ‘hot and fast’ grilling and searing, as well as ‘low and slow’ smoking. To achieve the ultimate flavour experience, chefs can add oak, cherry, apple, hickory or any other favoured woods to compliment the food they are creating, providing gastronomic perfection every time. The high heat feature has the added benefit of allowing the grill to be set to a self-cleaning mode, and at such temperatures, any cooking residues simply carbonise and can be brushed away.

Flavour is at the heart of Aemyrie. Peter Walsh explains, “There are many cooking styles available to a chef when using an Aemyrie grill. A world first, patent pending intelligent temperature control mechanism automatically adjusts the grill to ensure food is cooked precisely. This allows both food lovers and professional chefs alike to create everything from a steak seared for seconds, to melt-in-the-mouth meat which has been smoked at very low temperature for 20 hours or more.”

Unparalleled Design

There is an almost limitless range of materials that can be used in each commission, and the Aemyrie design team can integrate an extensive combination of woods, metals & composites to form a truly unique and individual showpiece. Examples include, brushed, satin or polished stainless steels, and enamels of almost any colour palette can be used as metal finish options, whilst the side panels can include black walnut, oak, teak, mahogany or even liquid metals. No aspect is left without thought. To compliment the chosen material and overall design theme, door and hood handles, temperature control knobs and other accents can be specified in a wide range of finishes, to include nickel, chrome, brass, silver and even gold. The choice really is almost limitless and allows for an Aemyrie to fit seamlessly into any home, setting or environment.

Inspiration for the outer side panels created from pinstriped woods came from the classic Boat-Tail cars of the 1920s and nautical legends made famous in the 1960s and 1970s on the Italian Riviera. Other automotive and nautical influences run throughout the brand, reflecting the presence and ability of an Aemyrie to be used both on land and sea in restaurants, hotels, high-end events and superyachts alike.

What chefs say

The public response following the launch of Aemyrie speaks for itself; a number of high profile chefs have shown keen interest in the highly sophisticated barbeque and grilling system, with award-winning and Michelin starred chef Darron Bun (Group Executive Head Chef of the Goodwood Estate) stating,

“If you are working as a chef and you don’t want one of these you need to change career. These are really classy.”

Aemyrie was a double award-winner in the 2018 Surrey Digital Awards, which included the flagship categories “Best Website” and “Best Online Retailer”; and was a winner in the 2017/18 A Prime Awards in the ‘Home Appliance Design’ category.

The testing and development of this beautiful creation is complete with all relevant trademarks and designs registered and all patents applied for. Aemyrie delivered their first commission in March 2018 to Malibu, California, and have a demonstration model now in residence at Stansted House, Hampshire which is ready to be viewed by appointment.

Aemyrie wood fired grills are now available to commission through the Aemyrie website. Prices are dependent on customer requirements and start from £25,000.

Definitely not one for the campsite – but definitely one for the wishlist!
